ASLEC, the Association of Signals, Lighting and other Highway Electrical Contractors, was formed in 1952 with the prime objective of representing the interests of organisations operating in the highway electrical market. The aim is to exchange knowledge and information and by mutual helpfulness to enable each to attain maximum efficiency. There are over 80 members, whose contracting activities encompass street lighting, traffic signals, traffic signs, highway communications and cameras.
ASLEC administers the Highway Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS), a quality management scheme that have been developed, as a partnership, by all sides of the highway industry to interpret ISO 9001 as it applies to a particular highway activity for industry within the United Kingdom. HERS is attached to the National Highways Sector Scheme 8 and the focus of our work is to raise awareness and build the argument for all highway maintenance contracts to specify HERS.
